The Phonograph

August 12, 1877 is the date that Thomas Edison completed his first completed model of the phonograph. While trying to improve the telegraph transmitter, he noticed that the movement of the paper tape through the machine made a noise that sounded like spoken words when it was played at a high speed. Immediately, he began experimenting with a stylus on a tinfoil cylinder. Edison spoke to the machine and said 'Marry had a little lamb'. Surprisingly, the machine recorded the sound and played it back to him. This sparked sound recording and made it become in popular.  Phonograph parlors began to open where people would pay a nickel to play a selection. This invention paved the way for jukeboxes, 8 tracks, CDs, and anything else that records music and lets us play it whenever we want.
